Yamile Jackson, PhD, PE, PMP is the founder and president of the ergonomics and human factors engineering company called Zakeez, Inc. and the inventor of the Zaky® . She specializes in the research and development of innovative and unique products that improve the quality of life of children including those born prematurely, as well as in helping parents and their children feel closer to each other.

My buttons pop with pride for your accomplishments, as they reflect the voice of all women,” said Christine Stillwell, president of Success in the City. Houston, one of the judges that awarded Yamile with the “Motherhood: Lifetime Achievement Award” by Texans Can! Academy in 2005.

Life was very hard for Dr. Jackson when the baby she was expecting was born prematurely weighing less than 2 pounds. Every night of the 5 months of hospitalization in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) she wished she could cut-off her hand to provide comfort and support, and to leave her loving touch, scent and protection to her baby when she was not at the bedside. That is how the Zaky® was born - using her capacity and the strength to capitalize her experience to help her own baby and later more babies, children and their families.

Her daily prayer, especially when the baby was the sickest, included a promise to help babies if her own survived – to be given the opportunity to help on his behalf and not in his memory. Once at home, nurses requested the “home-made” version of the Zaky to help other babies in the NICU and it became the path to pay Yamile’s promise. For 3 years, she researched, redesigned, improved, and tested the Zaky in a NICU in the Texas Medical Center prior to market. It is the award-winning bonding, therapeutic, developmental, and positioning pillow that imitates the look, feel, weight, and scent of the parents’ hand and forearm. It is proven to assist children with pain management, sleep, positioning, and with the physical and psychological development. One of the most important features is that it bonds parents (natural, foster or adopting parents) and their children, including those of working or traveling parents, or those in childcare, hospitalized or with special needs.

Yamile knows the importance for the children (and adults) to feel comfortable, safe and protected to be able to sleep and rest, and the Zaky is the only item in the market that in addition to its positioning, developmental, and therapeutic uses, it provides aid in bonding. Babies in the womb can feel the scent of mom through the amniotic fluid, so the Zaky is made with a special fabric that picks up the scent of mom or dad so that it assists the baby in recognizing the parents and feel accompanied at all times. To scent it, parents sleep for a night with the Zaky on the chest, or place a drop of mom’s perfume or dad’s after-shave. It includes a washing bag to wash/dry in any home/industrial machine, and shifting the filling can control its firmness and weight.

Size: 17.3 KBThe Zaky and the story of its development have been featured in TV and radio programs, books, magazines, newspapers, and various articles around the world. It was seen in Health and Medical Reports by FOX News, ABC, CBS, NBC, Univision, BBC London (TV and Radio), as well as the Rachel Ray Show, and other media worldwide. The Cable Channel TNT and Johnson and Johnson® produced the movie "14 hours" inspired on the story of Yamile´s baby the flood Tropical Storm Allison that shutdown his hospital and life-saving machines. The baby was kept alive “by hand” for 8 hours until evacuated.

The most rewarding moments for Yamile regarding the Zaky are reading the emails from customers and professionals telling her how it is touching and improving their lives. In addition to the emails she receives thanking her for making a wonderful baby-shower present or telling her how it helps everyone in the household sleep longer, she receives emails telling her how the Zaky helps soothe colicky babies and those that constantly want to be held, or those with more serious conditions such as prematurity, orthopaedic problems, cerebral palsy, autism, withdrawn children (those affected by drugs or alcohol from birth), disabled individuals, children with cancer (and children of cancer patients) post-surgery or medical intervention, and even in End-of-Life Care, to mention a few. The Zaky is used in thousands of homes, childcare facilities, nursing homes and over 200 hospitals globally.
Yamile embraces the opportunity and experience of being a mother. She is involved in every detail of her child's everyday life. She carefully plans the parties, educational activities, and enjoys taking him and picking him up from school every day,. There's nothing more valuable for her than spending time with her family. She has been able to balance being a successful executive, mother, wife, and friend simultaneously.

When Yamile is asked about her advise to other mothers that want to start a business she says: “You must have passion, consistency, confidence, believe, sacrifice, tenacity, humility, flexibility, motivation, and preparation. Be the best in what you do - everything else you can borrow or buy. Find someone and something that will help motivate you when things get difficult. For me, is my family and a sign I made that says: if it was easy, everyone would do it."

Those who know Yamile say that she is an outstanding executive and professional, a compassionate and inspiring individual, a loving wife and friend, but above all, she is an incredible mother. No doubt,....SHE IS A HOT MOM!
